February Newsletter

February, 2012 3 O magnify the Lord with me, and let us exalt His name together. Psalm 34:3 Dear Praying Friends,       God, as always, has been blessing His Word. Fernando has been doing a good job of declaring the truth faithfully and it is having effect in people’s lives. We are seeing several of the deaf make their way back as they see the church is carrying on in the work of the Lord. It has been slow during the holidays but we praise the Lord for 38 for our Valentine’s Day. One deaf man who got saved last year is becoming faithful after being a strong opponent in the beginning. It is wonderful to watch the Lord work and allow us to be a part of it.     We made a border trip and returned on the 7 th of February. On the 8 th the headlines in the US news was a massive bust of meth here. They reported it as being near Guadalajara. When I read another report it stated a town nearby. When I read the account in our local paper, it was within...

December 18

M E R R Y C HR I S T M A S !!          Some of you have been praying! On December 11th at our Christmas party we had 31. None were totally new but we enjoyed each person's company and the chance to share Christ with them. Sunday, the 18th, we presented Adam & Eve, a two hour video of the life, blessings and the promises of/to Adam. Several hearts were deeply touched and they stayed, praying with the Lord even after the invitation ended. There were 29 of us, which is the start of a good group.       The presentation was a little drastic for me because it mean continuous interpreting for more than two hours. Cheyenne and I started to share the burden, but soon realized that it would take two of us longer to distribute which part we would play than it would if I just interpreted it. Some conversations included four persons at nearly the ...

Wednesday AM

BRRRR!!  As I awoke this morning at 6:00, the temperature outside was a brisk 1 o C or 33 o F (it actually went to 32 by 8:00). It is 58 o INSIDE the house. With few exceptions, our houses do NOT have a heating system inside. We use a lot of blankets and several layers of clothes. We have a small gas heater for the worst of times, but it certainly cannot heat the house. It reminds me of my grandmother’s house when I was growing up. She had a double-sided fireplace that could heat two rooms of the house, one on each side of the dividing wall. On really cold nights, one side of you burned (next to the fire) while the other side of you froze. It was truly a paradox. Absolutely, freezing and burning at the same time were possible.      My mind always goes to our neighbors who have a tin roof and very breezy windows and doors. Many of them have no means of heating. Almost thirty years ago, a lady from near here taught me the first “dicho” I lea...

September-October, 2011 4 For the word of the LORD is right; and all his works are done in truth.   Psalm 33:4 Dear Praying Friends,       God is so faithful! At times we feel like the devil is winning, but then our Lord comes through and opens a new door or opportunity for His people, for His Word is right. We have shared over the past year how the devil got into a few of our folks who decided it was up to them to run off our pastor (in spite of a 97% positive vote). When they managed to do that, it appeared that the devil had won. More than thirty deaf had been run off little by little without telling us why in about a year. It turns out that the main man had cornered each one at different times and in different places and threatened them that they should not return. If a known past sin was involved, that was thrown up to them as reason why they could not attend. These were sins committed before the person accepted Christ as Savior, so they were...

Some days are just a lot harder than others. Cheyenne called after taking Lance to school to tell is that Lance got caught in the door of the city bus. There was a group of Jr. High kids getting off in front of them so she put Lance in front of her, but behind the kids. The bus driver suddenly took off, closing the door on Lance's arm. Fortunately, Lance was still inside, as was Cheyenne. Another lady screamed at the top of her lungs at the bus driver and he stopped and let them off. Cheyenne had purposely put herself behind Lance in case the driver could not see Lance. However, he didn't bother to look. When he felt they had stopped long enough, he took off without even checking to see if the passage door was clear. Cheyenne was a little more than shook up. Some of the routes here are famous for such careless driving, often killing dozens of people a year.      After calling us to update us, she told us the neighbor, Reina, took her in, sat her down and ma...

Wednesday, October 12

I feel like Noah today. Most of the night and all of the morning we have been inundated with heavy showers. Our driveway has been under two to three inches of water. It seems there are three major systems just off our west coast. The first was hurricane Jova that came ashore last night about 11:00 PM just about a hundred miles due west from here on the coast. Another hurricane is right on its heels expected to make landfall tonight and then head south. Just south of that one is a tropical storm that is also keeping things stirred up. The unusual thing about this is the number of disturbances, the closeness to us and the time of the year. It is usual for us to have two or three a year move up the coast, but off shore so we only get a little rain in August and September. Many years, the rainy season is completely over by October and we would see no additional rain until June. Guadalajara is located about half way across the Sierra Nevada range (Rocky Mounta...
