BRRRRR November 9

Yes, I know, it's cold in the US also. It reached 28 degrees last night. Our houses are masonry with no provision for heat. To try to heat with electric heat would require doubling our support. We are looking into a small gas heater to cut the cold. Since Saturday, the temperatures at night hover right at freezing, but the days are comfortably warm (72). INSIDE our house was 56 this morning. We always worry about those here who have much less than we in homes of much poorer quality.
We had a good weekend with good lessons taught by Pastor Armando. He is doing an excellent job. He returned yesterday to Monterrey to help his father prepare for upcoming surgery on the 23rd. They are hoping to re-attach his intestinal tract to put him back to normal. The only problem is that the doctor warned there are risks. I will be having the services this week.
When one lives in a foreign country, he always finds a way to continue despite the momentary dangers or difficulties. We have tried to calm the fears of our friends and family by letting them know we understand the difficulties here and have learned to live around the problems. We spent Sunday and Monday in town and all appeared to be the same. However, last night the news stated there were 22 homicides in town yesterday (usually about two) and the Secretary of Public Safety said they are near declaring the state to be in "luz roja," that is red alert. That would mean that all government officials would have to take extra precautions in travel and would need bodyguards. The whole situation shows it continues to ramp up. We could easily flee, but our kids and grand-kids as well as all of our brothers in Christ live in exactly the same situation or worse. Some of them live in the worst parts of town. As long as we have peace from the Lord to stay, we will do so, and in relative quiet.
We are thankful to the Lord that we are still able to minister here, even thought at times, in a more limited capacity. In the northern part of the country, some churches are having to limit themselves to one service each week, only in the daylight hours of Sunday afternoon. As I mentioned before, some are under the threat of total takeover. We are thankful it hasn't reached that point yet here. However, many Christians are going through terrible persecutions, including at least one pastor and his wife who were taken off the street and later killed. We are trying to prepare as much material as possible to get into the hands of our pastors so they will have material IN THEIR LANGUAGE to be able to use for years.
Thank you so much for praying and continuing to support the ministry. Pray that we will wring out the maximum in service before the door closes. We remain your servants for Christ's sake.
