Laynes Lines for September 2009

September 2009

2 Corinthians 3:2 Ye are our epistle written in our hearts, known and read of all men.

Dear Praying Friends,
Thank you so much for your prayers for us as we labor for the Lord. Armando, our deaf pastor, went home to Monterrey after camp to visit with his family because his father was having physical problems. The doctors discovered colon cancer and spots on his kidneys. In his absence, the deaf have asked Gary to preach to keep the church going. Armando is torn between his family and the needs of his family, and his “new” position as pastor of the church. Monterrey is only 500 miles north of Guadalajara!
God has greatly blessed through the weeks as we have consistently seen deaf receive Christ as Savior. We have been averaging about 65 for several weeks of which all are deaf except a few family members. The deaf themselves have been planning and executing the programming which is a real blessing for us.
We celebrate Independence Day here on September 16th, so we had our church celebration on the Sunday before, the 13th. By the close of the service there were 133 people packed into our church. A full account is given in our blog (layneslines.blogspot.com) including pictures. It was a blessed day beyond measure.
Ann has waited out the three month “wait and see” period to see if the cyst would disappear. She is trying to get over a cold so that the follow-up sonogram can be done. Thank you for praying for her and continue to pray for wisdom as we look at the next step.
Jonathan’s wife called us about ten days ago to tell us that Jonathan had contracted dengue fever, a tropical disease known as “break-bone fever.” That part is self explanatory. He had a high fever, headaches, ulcers, nausea and vomiting and a rash. It knocked him down so much that his doctor had him stay at the hospital to receive an IV and medications. Now, after two weeks of strong medications and total rest, he is almost back to normal. Please continue to pray that he will make a full recovery.
God has opened opportunities to be used in means that we had never thought of. A dear friend asked if we could help them prepare a DVD for use at the Deaf Olympics. We are thrilled to have a tiny part in reaching the deaf around the world with the Good News. God has also opened another opportunity to help a fellow Christian ministry prepare their materials so that they might be used by the deaf here in Mexico. As you are aware, regular materials cannot be handed to the deaf and expect them to understand those materials as though they were written for them. MSL (Mexican Sign Language) the same as ASL (American Sign Language) is recognized officially around the world as a separate language from their base language. Therefore, all our materials must be re-written in a way the deaf can understand. Now we have an opportunity to help more deaf understand important spiritual material.
Tepic is NOT off our list of goals. However, with Ann’s situation, we feel that the Lord would have us be in a place to get her help. As soon as is feasible, we will immediately return to the goal of reaching the deaf there with the Gospel.
Thank you for faithfully praying and supporting the Lord’s ministry in reaching the deaf for Him.

For DEAF souls in Mexico,

Gary & Ann Layne
