Matthew 6:33
But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.
Dear Praying Friends,
While still in High School, I took this verse to be my guiding light. After many years and experiences in my life, I am so thankful that this verse still contains the central issue of living for Him = putting Him first. Our prayer is that He should always have first place in our lives.
We are writing to thank you for praying for us the last couple of months. Right after the new year, Gary started with a deep chest cold that disrupted our schedule drastically. Eventually, along with the cold came a stiffness and pain in all of his joints. The doctor gave us directions for injection which immediately took away the stiffness, but it quickly returned. However, along with everything else, Gary started having a wildly erratic heartbeat. After three specialists and more than twenty different lab tests, one of the doctors has explained that apparently all of his distress and pain is caused by the after-effects of the virus. We keep praying that all of this will ease soon. Casey, Ann’s mother, often joked that a pain of five according to Gary would be a ten with any other person. We are now approaching a nine on Gary’s standard of pain. He is on one of the strongest medicines available, but after a few hours, even that does not relieve the pain.
Yesterday, he returned to our regular doctor and after a thorough exam he stated that he did NOT believe that this had any relation with the virus and bronchial infections. Gary was taking Tramadol for the pain, so he increased the amount and suggested that he continue with the course he was taking. As of last night, he was able to sleep through the night, but awakened with a good case of dizziness and a little nausea. The final result will take a few days more to see if this will work. Again. Thank you for your prayers.
Ann is progressing well with her reactions to returning to the field. Last October we were able to change our permits to permanent residency. We were only planning to get a temporal residency permit, but because we were using Jonathan’s residency to get ours, they corrected us and said that ours must be the same as his. So, after a few visits to Immigration, we were given our permits quite rapidly. These will be valid until we die.
Please continue to pray for the security situation here. We try to be very careful as to where we are, especially after dark. Almost everyone has asked us about the dangers here. We are aware of every danger each time we leave the house, yet we cannot allow that to stop our ministry. There are dangers here, but God is good. You might come here and never see anything dangerous, and then return home with a sense that noting was wrong. Yet according to the news, fourteen persons are killed here each week and more than fifteen thousand persons are missing. Pray that God will continue to see fit that we continue safely to teach and guide the deaf church.
Thank you for faithfully supporting us financially as well as in prayer. The numbers increase almost every week but there are still thousands here that we have never even met. Pray that we stay faithful to Him to see others come to know Him.
For DEAF souls in Mexico,
Gary & Ann Layne
