But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you. Matthew 6:33

Dear Praying Friends,
God is alive and well and certainly is working among the deaf of the city. After a horrible year last year (spiritual problems within the church), He is beginning to open the community to His word again. The past month we have had six NEW deaf come, two of which have made salvation decisions. We praise the Lord for the sweet spirit and pray that all will seek Him, and not their own ways.
We are excited about the next main event in our lives. We were invited to attend the DeafNation World Expo in Las Vegas this July. It should help some that we are fluent in English and Spanish as well as American and Mexican sign language. They are expecting a major growth from the 23, 400 who registered last year from 70+ nations. This will be a soul sinning, personal evangelism mission trip, sponsored by Silent Word Ministries (friends since college) with the purpose of reaching as many as possible through one-on-one contact, Gospel tracts and a DVD presentation of the Gospel given through mime and/or signs. David Bennett, the International Director for Silent Word Ministries will be our director and more than 30 are ready to make the trip. We are trusting God for the cost of the trip which is extremely cost effective for lodging, meals and transportation ($750 each) for the eight days of July 27-August 4, 2012, in addition to our airline expenses. If the Lord should move upon your heart to help defray the costs, please mark the check with DeafNation so we can identify the purpose.
1.      Please pray for understanding in the hearts of deaf souls as our sole desire is to reach lost deaf for Him.
2.      Please pray for the team physically, since last year the temperatures reached 115o.
3.      Pray for open hearts to receive the almost 18,000 DVD’s being made, special tracts being printed for this as well as many tracts in different languages.
4.      Pray for SPIRITUAL protection and power as we minister in the “Sin City,” (as they so often promote). This is NOT a pleasure trip! We will be in the devil’s back yard!

Of a different sort of news, PLEASE NOTE: our mailing address in Mexico is no longer valid. The cost has gone from about $6 a year to nearly $80. The trustworthiness of the system in no longer present, as well as most of our churches are more adapted to email. We trust this will not cause difficulties in communication. Our email is present at the bottom of the page.
We are beginning to make plans for our furlough beginning after the meeting in Las Vegas. We will arrive in Texas just in time to fly to LV, and then return to Texas to begin to prepare our trip home. We will be contacting each of you soon with the hope of being able to arrange meetings. We look forward to an opportunity to show what God has been doing.
We thank God for Fernando, our deaf leader. Previously, he stated that he had never felt called to preach. Immediately after the struggles with our former deacon, Gary chatted with him and stated that it certainly looked like God was putting him in the place of leadership, and he instantly agreed. He has preached regularly since that time. He is doing a good job in presenting God’s Word, but lacks a little in solid leadership. We are praying God will work with him (and in him) in this area. We praise the Lord he is allowing God to shape him as he leads.
Mother’s Day was a tremendous blessing with 52 present for the services and a few stragglers extra for the dinner. At least four unsaved were present. Gary preached on Titus 2:3-5 which gives directions for the Godly older ladies to show the younger ladies how to live and serve Him. We pray that His Word will have true effect upon our folks.
Gary’s surgery has healed and he can breathe. Be sure to check frequently with our blog to see his progress and to keep up with the day by day happenings.
Thank you so much for your continued care. God continues to bless and we continue to praise Him that we are able to serve Him here. Thank you for your sacrifices that make this ministry possible. There will be (and are already) brothers and sisters in Christ in Heaven with us because you gave.

For DEAF souls in Mexico,

Gary & Ann Layne

Praise the Lord for Fernando's commitment- we are praying for you and the work there. If you have some time in the Valley before you head home we would love to take you out for a meal. Please let us know.
