We are finally home and are recuperating from our travels. Did you ever realize that you don't travel as easily as a senior citizen as you did when young? We had a really good trip and were able to accomplish much. The property was in need of a lot of little repairs and we were able to scratch a few of them off the list. We certainly enjoyed spending the time helping, as the Kilpatricks are always a joy to be with.
Praise the Lord. Brother Kilpatrick is doing well with his treatments. After he started the treatments, he had a few side effects and the doctor cut the quantity to half. He seems to be tolerating it well. We are praying that this takes care of the two small nodules when the entire process is finished.
The problems at the border continues to get worse. While we were there, the state of Texas again announced that no Texan should travel into Mexico after a series of shootings, including the incident at Falcon Lake. Almost daily, there were reports that the bridges were being closed for different periods of time because of shoot-outs across the river. Occasionally, the projectiles cross the river and strike the houses nearest the river. The Mexican president said last month that it would probably get much worse before it gets better, since the cartels are literally fighting for their lives. It is sad to hear of so many innocent people being involved in the cross fire, ambushes, kidnappings, robberies, etc. It is easy to encounter someone at the border who has already lost a vehicle or has been at the wrong end of a muzzle while visiting Mexico. Last month they (cartels) started stopping buses to see who might be on them. Just last week a college student from Brownsville was killed to send a message to the army of Mexico. They now have a new pastime to cause more havoc on the public.
There is no doubt that the violence is here as well (Guadalajara), but most of the time we are able to avoid it. It is sad that so much of this country is under military protection right now. We have enjoyed being able to travel throughout this country in ministry and at present we are forced to avoid many places where we know the deaf need to hear the Word. Please pray for this country and for souls to continue to be saved.
