Saturday Morning

Good news! I was able to chat with Mike last night for a few minutes from his hospital. He began perking up after the doctors were able to jump start his kidneys. He was due to have dialysis but it was postponed with the hope of starting his own kidneys. His kidneys did start working but only partially in amount and in function, but that is a good direction.
Mike has been a diabetic for years and it has caused great damage to his body. Diabetes normally affects the eyes, kidneys, and most other organs of the body. Mike became blind about three years ago. Previously, he had trouble with his feet for more than a year. Now it has attacked his kidneys, causing a total shutdown.
Mike's electrolytes were also askew, especially his phosphorous. The doctors expected with his other levels at where they were that his phosphorous would be high. However, it was low. So, the entire team is trying to figure out diet, medication, treatment and other issues to get him back to "normal."
Carol (his wife) has been with him almost 24/7, so continue to pray for strength for her. Carol is a school teacher, so I am sure this has put more pressure on her, keeping her classroom lesson plans up-to-date, grading papers, record keeping, while caring for your husband day and night.
At the same time, their son-in-law had extensive surgery on Thursday, so their daughter is likewise torn between two. Their son, Jeremy, had to miss a very important conference for his work all this week. You understand how these things snowball and end up affecting many more.
However, the good news remains that Mike is alive and attentive right now, even though he is not completely out of the woods. He fully understands that this is one victory down a long road with his diabetes. Please continue to pray for all of them during this time. We will keep you posted so that you might pray better. Mike is certainly ready for whatever comes, but we would prefer to have him around a good while longer.
