September 8, 2008 Lord willing, we will be on our way in the next two days. The water was finally going down this morning until it started to rain! Our plans did change this past week concerning storage. I went to check on a storage building to rent and discovered the smallest unit available rents for $72 a month (8X10)! We cleared out the kids' room in our trailer and decided to stack everything there, even though it goes to the roof. It has ranged from 98-105 degrees daily, so a hard day's work (8AM-8PM) doesn't seem to render as much as it should. It normally requires three changes of clothing because of soaking the others to the point they cannot be tolerated any more (shoulders to knees). We have waded the waters until we are sick of seeing them. The other day, I took a plastic truck box out to the storage building. The dolly got stuck in the mud and the truck box floated off. I finished the trip by floating the box the rest of the way to the storage area. Eve...

Monday, 1 September, 2008 We are FINALLY trying to dry out again. The highway was still flooded both North and South until yesterday afternoon. The South stretch opened almost a lane down the middle. Today it has dropped below the pavement and is apparently drying up. The northern stretch is still completely shut off. We have to drive around the barriers to get into the mission, but that is legal. The driving through eight inches of water two or four times a day was getting old (going south). Our storage building has finally cleared the water as of this morning. It never got into it the second time but did cover the bottom of it until last night sometime since the rains last weekend. Our only problem now are the Texas mosquitoes. They are between 1/2 and 3/4 of an inch long with mouth parts proportionate. When they bite, they hurt! This is obviously Ann's arm. I couldn't stand still long enough to let a mosquito land and then bite me while taking a picture. Any time we ...

Wednesday - yesterday our cargo trailer was parked to the left of this picture; today it is lake front property! The tire marks are our hasty retreat with the trailer. The tan building in the center is our storage building getting ready to flood again. The good news is that the state and county have an article in the paper today stating that something needs to be done about this flooding. It is frustrating for us, but there are people who have been out of their houses since July 24! Our building is still wet and a few items still need to be gotten out. Anything that cannot be carried through 6 inches water or placed up on shelves is still there. We have 2 cargo trailers worth of supplies for Mexico that are being kept in the chapel, because we cannot get into the storage building to ready it for the new load. Anyone have pontoons for a house trailer?

Tuesday arrived with news for us: the property is nearly as flooded as it was the first of the month. Notice the truck in the center of the picture? THAT is the highway!

August 23, 2008 Guess what? Thunderstorms and heavy rainfall for the weekend. Saturday 2-3 inches arrived and Sunday was about four inches of rain. TODAY, Monday, another 2-3 inches arrived and had drizzled until 5:00 PM. The bottom picture is right outside the front door of the mission with water ready to flow inside.

August 20, 2008 INSIDE the storage building at last. Not all is lost, although some things are a total loss. Amazingly, very few items were on the floor of the building. After getting the boxes out, it will have to be sanitized.
